LangChain 1.4.8 Maintenance Patch Prepares for Python 3.10 Deprecation
What changed
LangChain has released version 1.4.8, bringing a set of security patches, dependency updates, and an explicit deprecation timeline for older Python runtimes.
- Python 3.10 Deprecation Notice: LangChain announced that
langchain1.4.x andlangchain-core1.7.x are the final minor release series to support Python 3.10. Support for Python 3.10 will be removed inlangchain1.5.0 andlangchain-core1.8.0. - Core Package Alignment: Bumped
langchain-corecompatibility layer (#41640). - Dependency Upgrades: Updated key libraries in
/libs/langchain_v1, including:fastmcpupgraded from 4.0.11 to 4.1.2.authlibupdated from 1.7.2 to 1.9.1.joserfcupdated from 1.7.4 to 1.7.6.pyasn1updated from 0.6.4 to 0.6.5.opentelemetry-apiupdated from 1.44.0 to 1.45.1.
- Build and Infrastructure Adjustments: Applied 32 minor and patch updates across three package directories (#41465), patched integration vulnerabilities (#41473, #41481), and relaxed third-party dependency upper bounds (#41407).
Why it matters
The drop of Python 3.10 in upcoming minor versions (langchain 1.5.0 and langchain-core 1.8.0) requires teams maintaining agent pipelines to plan runtime upgrades to Python 3.11 or later.
Additionally, upgrading core security libraries such as authlib and joserfc resolves potential vulnerabilities in authentication routines. The update to fastmcp aligns LangChain’s Model Context Protocol integration with recent server protocol standards—a relevant update as agent tools like Anthropic Claude Code continue expanding MCP integration capabilities. Relaxing third-party dependency upper bounds also reduces package resolution conflicts when combining LangChain with other modern Python automation stacks.
What to do next
- Upgrade Runtimes: Verify existing deployments and upgrade Python environments to Python 3.11 or Python 3.12 prior to the
langchain1.5.0 release. - Update Package: Install the latest patch using
pip install --upgrade langchain==1.4.8. - Check Environment Dependencies: If your project relies on strict third-party package bounds, verify that relaxed constraints in PR #41407 do not create unexpected peer dependency conflicts in your environment.
Limitations
This release contains maintenance fixes, dependency bumps, and deprecation warnings; it introduces no new high-level agent APIs or major feature abstractions.
